195 : 3

فَٱسۡتَجَابَ لَهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ أَنِّي لَآ أُضِيعُ عَمَلَ عَٰمِلٖ مِّنكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوۡ أُنثَىٰۖ بَعۡضُكُم مِّنۢ بَعۡضٖۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُواْ وَأُخۡرِجُواْ مِن دِيَٰرِهِمۡ وَأُوذُواْ فِي سَبِيلِي وَقَٰتَلُواْ وَقُتِلُواْ لَأُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنۡهُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمۡ وَلَأُدۡخِلَنَّهُمۡ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ ثَوَابٗا مِّنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱللَّهُ عِندَهُۥ حُسۡنُ ٱلثَّوَابِ

(195) Their Lord responded to them that: “I shall never render useless the deeds of any doer of you, male or female; you are each other’s other part[776]. Those who migrated, were expelled from their lands, persecuted in My cause, fought and got killed, I shall expunge their misdeeds and admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow”; a reward from Allah—indeed with Allah is the best of rewards. info

[776] Both men and women are born of each other and are looked upon equally. (al-Ṭabarī, Ibn Kathīr, al-Saʿdī)

196 : 3

لَا يَغُرَّنَّكَ تَقَلُّبُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

(196) Do not be deceived by the revelling[777] of those who Deny in the land; info

[777] By the fact that the Deniers were living unchecked, enjoying complete freedom of movement and all that life has to offer (cf. Aya 178 above).

197 : 3

مَتَٰعٞ قَلِيلٞ ثُمَّ مَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمِهَادُ

(197) ˹this is but˺ a passing enjoyment, then their resort is Hellfire—ghastly indeed is this bed! info

198 : 3

لَٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوۡاْ رَبَّهُمۡ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتٞ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا نُزُلٗا مِّنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيۡرٞ لِّلۡأَبۡرَارِ

(198) But those who are Mindful of their Lord, theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow, eternally they abide therein; a domicile coming from Allah—what is with Allah is best for the Righteous. info

199 : 3

وَإِنَّ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لَمَن يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكُمۡ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡهِمۡ خَٰشِعِينَ لِلَّهِ لَا يَشۡتَرُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنٗا قَلِيلًاۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ

(199) Indeed there are among the People of the Book those who Believe in Allah, what has been sent down to you[778] and what had been sent down to them, humbling themselves before Allah and do not trade off the Signs of Allah for a pittance; for those is their reward with their Lord—Allah is swift in reckoning. info

200 : 3

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱصۡبِرُواْ وَصَابِرُواْ وَرَابِطُواْ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ

(200) You who Believe, be forbearing[779], remain firm[780], guard your lands[781] and be Mindful of Allah so that you may be successful[782]. info

[779] Be patient in the face of life’s trials and tribulations. (al-Ṭabarī, al-Saʿdī)
[780] When you face your enemy in battle. (al-Ṭabarī, al-Saʿdī)
[781] Rābiṭū from ribāṭ, i.e. the fact of ‘tying up’ one’s war steed at outposts to protect the borders from enemy attack. (al-Ṭabarī, Ibn ʿAṭiyyah, Ibn ʿĀshūr, al-Saʿdī)
[782] This aya sums up the keys for being victorious which are repeated throughout Āl ʿImrān. It is given in answer to the Believer’s Prayer to God to make them prevail over the Deniers found at the very end of al-Baqarah. (Cf. ‘Key’ in the Introduction to this sura.)
