ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ يَعِدُكُمُ ٱلۡفَقۡرَ وَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَعِدُكُم مَّغۡفِرَةٗ مِّنۡهُ وَفَضۡلٗاۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٞ

(268) Satan promises[476] you poverty, and incites you to immorality[477]. And Allah promises you forgiveness by Him and abundance—verily Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing. info

[476] Intimidates people with poverty if they spend their money in charity. (al-Ṭabarī, Ibn Kathīr, al-Saʿdī)
[477] al-faḥshā’ signifies all bad and immoral deeds. Ibn al-Qayyim says: “Exegetes unanimously agree that al-faḥshā’ here means miserliness” (Ṭarīq al-Hijratayn, p. 375).
